I gotta say two of the albums I've listened to most so far are from bands that have long since been passed their prime.

Overkill - Ironbound...fantastic return guys!
Fear Factory - Mechanized...once again, they've got the magic!

I haven't listened to Overkill in a long time. The last albums I heard were From The Underground And Below and Necroshine, both of which I thought were fairly decent. I'll have to revisit some of their albums and check out this new one you speak of.

For me, it's 3 albums.

Overkill - Ironbound
Fear Factory - Mechanize
Heathen - The Evolution of Chaos

The FF just recently started clicking with over the past few days, but I've been stuck on the other two for awhile - absolutely fantastic thrash. Ironbound is easily one of Overkill's best.

Oh yeah, that Heathen album is a phenomenal beast...some reason though, I keep going back to Overkill and FF. Maybe I toss the Heaten on momentarily.

I'm in total agreement on both counts. To be honest, I was never a big Overkill fan growing up, even though it was their heyday. I've really enjoyed their last several records, though. I'm also really enjoying the Fear Factory record. It's taking me back 15 years or so, when I loved Soul of a New Machine and Demanufacture.

The third record that's really making an impact on me is a new band, but with some old faces. It's the one I reviewed here today, Charred Walls of the Damned. I've probably listened to that one most over the past few weeks.

Ripper, Suecof, DiGiorgio and Christy? FUCK YEAH! How could I miss this one??????!!

Thanks, Fred!

Here are some of my faves:
Heligoland by Massive Attack
Hellbilly Deluxe 2 by Rob Zombie
Ironbound by Overkill (definitely!)
Soldier Of Love by Sade
Tomorrow, In A Year by The Knife
Mechanize by Fear Factory (mediocre FF is still better than most bands of their ilk)

Haven't heard the new Heathen. I shall get to it then.

Ares Kingdom is tops so far and what I've heard of the new Immolation might be even better.

Two spots reserved in the year-end list from what I've heard of each.

Also, 2010 marks the year where we'll get a new Killing Joke album (Feast Of Fools) with the original lineup! I'm pumped!!!

The Ares Kingdom album is quite good.

Just today I heard the new Rotting Christ - awesome! I've never heard much of them before, and what I had heard (just the stuff on their myspace at the time), I didn't care for really, but I was pretty blown away by this one.

The one new song I heard didn't impress me. I'll have to listen to the rest of the album. You should check out their first 3 full-lengths. Those are their best by far, not to mention some of the best black metal of all time.

Forgot Universal by Borknagar. Simen sings on the last track. Oystein should form a band with him. Leave Borknagar for Vintersorg but don't let that immense talent go to waste.

Gonna sample the new Rotting Christ right now, see if I like it.

Triptykon is the new Tom G. Warrior vehicle, right?

Yep. And Giger let Tom use one of his paintings for the cover.

Good to know. Giger always elevates whatever he touches.

One more: Imperium Dekadenz - Procella Vadens
Love their take on melancholic, majestic black metal.

I really dig that Wintersun album, almost a bit strange considering how little interest I have in Ensiferum (album or live, take your pick).
