Organ Dealer
Visceral Infection EP

I remember there was once a time when I used to walk to record stores and take a chance on a band solely based on the album artwork. In starting this review I must say I was very much drawn into the cover art of New Jersey grinders Organ Dealer prior to checking them out much in the same way I was drawn into anything with artwork by Dan Seagrave or Wes Benscoter, to name a few. The cover art is very detailed and grotesque but not necessarily the goriest presentation by a death grind act more so in the way visually that the artwork ties into the way the song concepts work within an album. There is an intricacy in the way each detail ties into each other that had me curious as to what Organ Dealer sounded like.

Organ Dealer’s Visceral Infection kicks in with “KPC-Oxa48” which is apparently is known as a nightmare bacteria that can wipe out its victims once in the bloodstream. The pummeling blast beats and guitar harmonies make for a very catchy opener and I dare say there is some Cannibal Corpse influence present as well. Organ Dealer reminds a great deal of Pig Destroyer Prowler in The Yard era mixed with elements of Human Remains (in the vocal delivery) and also Rotten Sound (overall intensity).  The riffing feels at times like a technical death metal band but then seems to transition back into more of a traditional grind style but still with a sense of jagged discordance.  The way each song moves is fun to listen to.

“Black Dolphin” is the other track that sticks out to me in terms of relentlessness. There is a churning aggression to the way this song builds and for me is second highlight of this release. Organ Dealer’s Visceral Infection is twenty minutes of scathingly entertaining metal. Most of the songs on this are one to two minutes long. There is a cohesive vibe to this effort and it is relentless from start to finish and can see great things ahead for this group of New Jerseyians.

Having only been around since 2013 I like the direction Organ Dealer are going and have a feeling we will see much more diverse material from these guys coming ahead. It will be interesting to see if Organ Dealer can create a full length and to see how the song arrangements might change if at all.  Give this one a chance if you are a fan of Pig Destroyer, Rotten Sound or even Cattle Decapitation. Try to find this on the black market if you can.

Man, this is a killer Nick. Great review! I agree on that cover. Not as gory as a lot of bands doing this style but there’s something pretty obtuse and awesome about it!

As for the music, these guys kick raw ass and plenty.
