1. Maudlin of the Well – Part The Second
2. Opeth – Still Life
3. Isis – Panopticon
4. Porcupine Tree – Fear of a Blank Planet
5. Edge of Sanity – Crimson II

note: this is without album repeats from the same band… in which case, top 4 spaces would immediately be filled with every maudlin of the well album =) then opeth would be next in line… and, I don’t care about history or prestige… these albums are clearly better than anything Slayer or Metallica has put out… There, I said it!!

Nice to see such a list, even though there are submissions by people that actually don’t matter, but it was really good to see Brian Slagel’s top five. I was surprised I didn’t see more nods towards Morbid Angel, whose first four albums are all top notch and “Altars Of Madness” is an undisputed classic of Metal. I think it somewhat proves that the records listened to in the formative years, when first discovering certain music on one’s own are the albums that will make these lists. It has as much to do with human development as it does the strength of the material. Whether it was Judas Priest or Korn “issues”

I guess i need to check out Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven- I always thought Vulgar was thier best, but I see Driven on here quite a bit
