I remember it being panned when it first came out.

1. Maudlin of the Well – Part The Second
2. Opeth – Still Life
3. Isis – Panopticon
4. Porcupine Tree – Fear of a Blank Planet
5. Edge of Sanity – Crimson II

note: this is without album repeats from the same band… in which case, top 4 spaces would immediately be filled with every maudlin of the well album =) then opeth would be next in line… and, I don’t care about history or prestige… these albums are clearly better than anything Slayer or Metallica has put out… There, I said it!!

Even though Alex Webster gets to list his favorite albums? (By the way his top two albums match the overall Top Two) …But Vanessa Carlton is there? And Kate Bush? And The Cure? And Hank Williams Jr.? PLEASE?!?!? :)

Cheers all!

I had to narrow it down to 10… It was really difficult, why do you think I used the trick of only choosing from their first four albums? “God Of Emptiness” would have been the 11th song, but it was only a top ten…

I was surprised I didn’t see more nods towards Morbid Angel, whose first four albums are all top notch and “Altars Of Madness” is an undisputed classic of Metal. For my two cents on Morbid Angel, check:

Nearly all of my all time faves are from my teen years, when I was just beginning to truly discover music. Those initial discoveries are always the longest lasting.

It has as much to do with human development as it does the strength of the material. Whether it was Judas Priest or Korn “issues”
