Ugh Iced Earth. I fucking hate this redneck band and threw all their cd's in the trash after I became aware of their patriotic hillbilly garbage. Barlow becoming a pig was the final straw.

'We The People' is THE outstanding track on this album. I love John's passion and he speaks from the heart...but, yeah, his message just gets lost in the translation somewhere along the line....perhaps a little too convoluted....

I couldn't agree with the review and FLF more. I think this would have been more powerful as an instrumental album. Music alone can raise spirits and make the listener feel triumphant. The lyrics just ruin it. And this is coming from a huge Schaffer fan. Anyway I hope he's got whatever it is he needed to release out of his system so he can write another killer Iced Earth album!

This record is more paranoid than patriotic, to be honest. It might work as a fictional concept, but not as political commentary. I agree about the last two records. After waiting on that concept a long time, those records were a big disappointment. I thought they got lost in the story and neglected the music, and I hated the vocal switch midstream. I'm hoping he just drops the bullshit and writes some good songs for the new one.

I'll have to go check this out. I loved The Glorious Burden but still I hope Iced Earth doesn't return to the patriotic themes too much in the future... a song or two is ok but not another whole concept album. Also, I hope the next album isn't anything like the previous two. They had their moments but they just didn't keep my attention like the earlier albums. I'd like to hear something of a mix between Dark Saga and Something Wicked but without any concept at all. Let's just thrash already.
