Here’s my first exposure two this dual drummer owning band and their hefty form of crumbly, dissonant sludge and Im sort of torn on it. On one hand when absorbing this release on a 300 watt stereo at full volume, the Mastodon-ish vibes that careen from the speakers with muscular and angular tones and shuddering, furniture moving, jarring heaviness, I’m, blown away. On the other hand when I put on some decent headphones and try absorbing the two drum and two vocalist assault, Time Will Fuse Its Worth surprisingly loses some of its girth.
The rumbling, staggering heft and dirgy hues, that sort of reminded me of a High On Fire/Mastodon/ Converge mish-mash on barbiturates while impressive, still never fully click with me as actual songs, but only as a full album experience. There are no standout songs per say, just moments within the tracks such as “Hollow Severer”, “Where the Horizon Unfolds” and the expansive “Between Silence and Sound” that shake my very being. But other tracks like “Identity Defined”, “Ignoring Anger” and “The Warning” barely register. The dual shout/scream vocals of Phillip Cove and Laura Pleasant never fully grab me and to be honest if the press sheet had not told me there were two drummers I probably would have never known despite the often tribal percussive approach (remember Adam and the Ants? Now they used two drums to perfection).When in the right frame of mind and when listened as a whole, Time Will Fuse Its Worth is a moving, lumbering mass of earthy heaviness that will sap your energy, but don’t go looking for catchy tracks or memorable song writing,
