Review of Lieweaver - The Origin EP

Label: Lethal Scissor Records / Year: 2021 / Artist website

So here is one of my more obscure forays into 2021’s bumper crop of deathcore and it’s from Ukranian act, Lieweaver who split the middle ground between burly mid-paced downtempo deathcore and more technical death metal stylings and also throw in a few atmospheric keyboards here and there.

It’s not doing anything particularly original or groundbreaking, but there is some solid stuff on this 6 song, 20 or so minute effort that hints at something really good for a full-length effort. The vocals are the mouth full of nuts ‘n’ bolts, inhaled variety and the production is big and beefy. The riffs a generally focused on groovier lumbers akin to say Distant and such, but they have a little more variety and blasting mixed in as well.

Tracks like “Void” and “Morning Father” highlight this blend well with ample hefty lurches and spurts of increased complexity sprinkled in. The last song, “Obsessed with Purity”, delivers it all in spades, being the EP’s endnote highlight with a sweet little staggering, stuttering main riff and massive groove to close out.

Fans of fellow eastern European deathcore stompers Slaughter to Prevail might check this out as well as any fan of 2021s deathcore releases from the likes of Signs of the Swarm or Osiah, as this is a very promising little EP, with a little technicality to go with the expected deathcore heft.
