So I didn’t know this, but apparently Dripping Decay broke up? That didn’t last long, a literal handful of releases, including one full-length Festering Grotesqueries in 2023 and then an EP called Ripping Remains in 2024… now they’ve resurfaced as Ripping Remains. Go figure… band drama.
Well, I don’t care about band drama. I care about the end result of the drama, and in this case, it sounds like it has resulted in a killer as fuck OSDM album. Ripping Remains have arrived with a brutal beating of an E,P and hopefully they’ll stick around long enough to pump out a full-length album down the road.
Beginning with the creeping intro “Carbonized Effluvium” that takes a big cue from Fulci’s ethereal atmosphere and puts their own spin on the creepiest intro on a Death Metal album.
The title track has this immense Autopsy beginning that switches to brutal Grindcore with a build-up to blast sound that will rip you a new asshole. “The Horror Writes Itself” is hell for leather, a burly Grindcore track that delivers its own version of scorched earth policy, complete with this psychedelic solo that worms into your brain and doesn’t let go.
Despite the lineup being the core of Dripping Decay, this EP sounds nothing like their former band. Even the dude who did the artwork for the album was involved in that band for fucks sake. “Rub My Infection on You” is infectiously catchy. See what I did there? It rips headlong into blasting oblivion with a sick Terrorizer feeling.
For me, it’s “Maternal Rot” with its vicious Dismember vibes that is my favorite track, think Indecent and Obscene with some Pieces riffs mashed together; throw some Where Iron Crosses Grow in there for taste, and you will get my meaning. That track is my favorite on this neck-snapping EP. You need to own this one, especially if you liked Dripping Decay or even bands like Terrorizer and Dismember, and Autopsy. Seek and obtain!
