My friend, Brian Ferrell, runs the record label, Ossuary Industries, outta Texas. If you are unfamiliar with the types of death metal bands he has, I would compare his label to Sevared Records and Comatose Music. So what does that mean?? Well, it’s the ultra-brutal sort of death metal that has one goal in mind. To rip heads off!! Plain and simple. Brian has been an ardent supporter of the death metal scene for decades and has also put on festivals of the most brutal bands possible. He is also a gracious host, generous, and knows how to smoke some brisket, sausages, and is an awesome individual. While I am giving out slaps on the back, let’s also give it up to Brian’s employee Dakota. This sonofabitch helped with some of the layout of this CD and ensured it was going to get printed. Thank god it was printed, or Brian was going to give him the heave-ho.
This compilation puts together four of some of the most gut-wrenching brutal death metal bands today. The first seven songs are from the multi-state brutal experimental slam death metal band, Dripping. In case you were asleep, earlier this year Devin Swank, from Sanguisugabogg, joined, and he goes the extra guttural mile on these tracks, more on that later. The next three songs are from Texas’ Sect of Execration, the next five are from Fisted, also from Texas, and lastly, multi-state/international act Brutal Torment rounds things out with the final five songs, driving those nails into the proverbial coffin. Let’s get to the individual acts pronto.
In 2002, Dripping released their only album – Disintegration of Thought Patterns During a Synthetic Mind Traveling Bliss. Brutal, weird, experimental with enough slams to knock the fillings outta your mouth. The band reformed in 2023, and then in 2025, they released the Archaic Scriptures of Epistemology EP, a few new songs, and some live stuff. Then my pal Devin Swank comes in to take the vocal reins. Devin has quite a diverse range of brutal vocals. From his main band Sanguisugabogg, to his other bands like Bludgeoned by Deformity, to Earthburner, and now Dripping, his styles vary. Very impressive. With Dripping, the band always had clogged sewer pipe filthy lower than whale shit gutturals, and dark lord almighty, he nails it. “Laminectomy (Alien)” opens with a slow slam and various sounds, then that ripping blast with super low gutturals and screams. The band has not missed a beat, and this is so brutal, yet also melodic, like in the past. We are treated to some cool, out-of-nowhere melodic guitar solos, then boom right into a blast with filthy and vomitrocious vocals. There’s a ton of tracks left on this comp, yet I’ve already destroyed a few city blocks by now. “Paradigm of Obscurity” has a movie/show clip before the slam and the maniacal, deep, and high type of vocals. This slam is crucial. Dripping also does “Kingdom of Cruelty” (Dehumanized cover), rather well, just making it a tad filthier. Add in some 808 bass bomb drops on a bunch of these songs, and winner, winner, chicken dinner. Dripping is back and stronger than ever. Awesome brutality.
Sect of Execration has a prior EP/split to their resume and a little ditty of a demo, but that was years ago. The band reformed last year, and here are some new tunes. “The Beast” is a really fast song with powerful, throaty guttural vocals. Expect Texas steak-sized slams, and they come in at the right time, after brutal blasts. There is some rather swell guitar riffing on this song. Believe it or not the vocals are actually heavier than the music. This song is intense and ripped a few heads off at the local five and dime after I played it. “Baptized Through Blasphemy” is exactly what would happen to you if you were born into the occult, and the opening slow slam is monumental. Vocals burp and snort their way through this track, with double-pounding blast-beat drums. This is the best song from the band on here, since they utilize a multitude of tempo shifts to their credit.
Fisted has a way of murdering your soul, yet smiling at you in the process. Fun to point out, bassist Joe Mortimer happens to be in one billion bands. Yes, you read that correctly. One billion, from here all the way to Istanbul. Fisted enjoys some humor with their song titles, and “Yeast Feast” is something the band eats before practicing, from my understanding. Lower those headphones ‘cause the mix on these songs is much louder than the Sect.. ones. This song gets out of the starting gates with blasts on top of blasts. There is no rest at all. Vocals run the gamut of screams, growls, snorts, and filthy gutturals. Real fun song. “Backyard Anal Slip in Slide” is currently out of stock at Target and Amazon, based on the release of this comp. More vicious blasts with very creative bass guitar plucking madness. This is a terrific song.
Brutal Torment rounds out this comp, and “Lizard Brain Vendetta” has a real old-school sound. Definitely early 90’s brutal death metal. Big Suffocation influence, when they were less tech and more straightforward brutal AF death metal. Some wacky harmonics will slice and dice your lips clean off your pathetic mug. “Behold Judas” has tremendous drum rolls that are extraordinarily fast. Wicked brutality and groove slams, and you wonder why this band has the name they do. As far as brutal death metal goes, there definitely is some thought going into the guitar riffs. Kinda catchy, and I really like the parts on this song.
Limb Splitter III Compilation is a fantastic compilation to introduce you to four of the most brutal death metal bands in the scene today. While they do not have anything resembling lengthy discographies, please support them and Ossuary Industries. Without the newer bands, the scene will not thrive. Without labels/distros, like Brian’s, the scene will not grow. Support underground brutality from the bands and labels. This comp is not for the faint-hearted. Top-notch choke slamming brutality!!!!.
