After 4 albums and a few splits/EPs of damn solid Swedish-style death metal, Germany’s Endseeker is calling it quits, and this 5-song EP is their swan song.
I missed the last full-length, 2023’s Global Worming, but I enjoyed the last album I heard, 2021’s Mount Carcass. The band was always one of the better Dismember clones around, and that is the same for this 5 song EP.
The four original songs cover the expected mid-era Dismember hues with aplomb. The guitar tone is spot on, and the focus on the more groovy Massive Killing Capacity-styled riffs is competently done, as it has been their whole career. Moments like the huge groove in the last third of “Enemies of Peace”, and the opening/closing riff of “Life Breeds Death” all nail the chosen and obvious inspiration perfectly.
Like most of the band’s efforts, there is a cover song here (the band has covered everything from Bolt Thrower and Megadeth to the Escape from New York movie theme); this time it’s David Hasselhoff’s “True Survivor”. Yep, you read that right, and it’s a hoot.
