Mental Cruelty – Echoes of a Forlorn Land

Mental Cruelty – Echoes of a Forlorn Land

“Change is inevitable, and the disruption it causes often brings both inconvenience and opportunity.” – Robert Scoble I looked for all sorts of quotes about change when preparing to write this review. From Benjamin Disraeli to Heraclitus, but eventually settled on tech guru Robert Scoble, as the addition of inconvenience and opportunity seemed pretty apt […]

Master – Among the Seeds of Death

Master – Among the Seeds of Death

Master has returned with their 16th album, Among the Seeds of Death. That’s a lot of albums, and I reviewed their last album from 2024, Saints Dispelled. That was definitely a fun and classic-sounding Master album, but on Among the Seeds of Death, mastermind Paul Speckmann has upped the ante even more. Alex Nejezchleba returns […]

Amon Amarth – The Allfather Awakens

Amon Amarth – The Allfather Awakens

At this point in their career, I think it’d be perfectly reasonable to assume that Amon Amarth has reached a point where they’re not mailing it in per se, but they’re not fighting against a proven formula that ensures they continue being a top-tier, headlining act at the metal world’s biggest festivals and tours. And I can’t […]

Crown Magnetar – The Hollowing of Godflesh

Crown Magnetar – The Hollowing of Godflesh

Crown Magnetar is becoming one of the most consistent deathcore bands around. With 3 albums, including this one, and 2 EPs since 2021, they have consistently delivered some of the most brutal, straightforward deathcore around, coming very, very close to elite, big four status. And The Hollowing of Godflesh does nothing to change that. The Hollowing […]

Anthrax – Cursum Perficio

Anthrax – Cursum Perficio

When it comes to the big four Thrash bands Anthrax gets the most heat, just like my Dallas Cowboys. I feel the hate is unjust, as I have met them and been a longtime fan since their 1984 debut – Fistful of Metal. I’ve seen them live since the 80s up to the present. I […]

Interview With Trench Warfare

Interview With Trench Warfare

I recently interviewed Jay Gorania vocalist for brutal blackened death metal band Trench Warfare. Their second album, Achtung! Destroy The Weak, is currently out and I reviewed it on Teeth of the Divine recently. The album is a beautiful display of all things old and new school, when it comes to extreme metal, as well as having a fair amount of originality. Jay is an interesting individual who is a well-read fella as well as avid metal fan and writer for a variety of sites, past and present. He’s funny, original and is hellbent on bringing Trench Warfare to the masses now, with plans of shows and potential touring. Read on good reader to see Jay’s well thought out and in-depth answers to my questions. Once again, Jay, thanks again for taking the time to do the interview. Cheers!

Revel In Flesh – Flesh for the Kult of Death

Revel In Flesh – Flesh for the Kult of Death

After 5 albums since forming in 2012, Germany’s Revel in Flesh broke up in 2024. My friend, Ralf Hauber, who is the founder and singer, decided to step away from the band. Though he kept his other active bands, Heads For The Dead and Rotpit, still going strong. I have interviewed Ralf before, reviewed all […]

Disfiguring the Goddess – Bloom

Disfiguring the Goddess – Bloom

I’ve been fucking around with Disfiguring the Goddess since 2012’s Sleeper, but the last album I actually heard from ‘Big Chocolate’ (aka Cameron Argon, formerly of Abominable Putridity and Burning the Masses) and his dubstep/techno infused take on deathcore was 2019’s Katerpillar. Now, certainly, techno and dubstep beats/programming in metal, specifically deathcore, have been used […]

Dimmu Bongir/Jaldaboath – Blazin in the Northern Sky Split Album

Dimmu Bongir/Jaldaboath – Blazin in the Northern Sky Split Album

Parody bands have always been a ‘meh’ for me, even going back to Lawnmower Deth days and more recently, Cannabis Corpse. But England’s Jaldaboath is an exception; their two albums Rise of the Heraldic Beasts and The Further Adventures of…are both hilarious and contain brilliant songs as well as clever use of many other TV/Movie […]

Apogean – Waste Where Life Begins

Apogean – Waste Where Life Begins

You kind of know what you are getting with any band on The Artisan Era: techy, shredding tech death of some sort, sometimes with keyboards, often a bit blackened, but always with top-notch musicians. Their roster is full of them: Inferi, Aethereus, Demon King, The Devils of Loudon, to name a few. And in 2024, […]

Protest The Hero – Within

Protest The Hero – Within

Protest The Hero, and I have a history. Ever since I was introduced to Kezia by a good friend at Ye Olde Alma Mater, I’ve paid close attention to anything they release. Add to the equation that they made their political stances quite clear on Palimpsest in 2020; they happen to align with mine, and […]

Madball – Not Your Kingdom

Madball – Not Your Kingdom

For over 40+ years, Madball have been slinging their brand of NYHC. Originally a side project for Agnostic Front’s vocalist, Roger Miret, he handed over the mic duties to his younger brother Freddy Cricien. Not Your Kingdom is the band’s 10th full-length and first one in eight years, their last being For the Cause, in […]

Moonspell – Far From God

Moonspell – Far From God

Certainly, any band that has been around for decades (let alone over three of them) can most likely be broken up and examined by “eras” of their existence. Over that amount of time, artists are likely to go through stylistic changes and experimentation, paving their way through their art to find their voice and express […]

Psycroptic – The Pulse of Annihilation

Psycroptic – The Pulse of Annihilation

I’m in the minority, and by “minority,” I mean the only one on the staff who wanted to review the new Psycroptic album, The Pulse of Annihilation. Each member of the team has their reasons, specifically that they don’t like the band, but it is what it is. I do and have seen them live […]

Nunslaughter – Satanic Chaos Legions

Nunslaughter – Satanic Chaos Legions

Nunslaughter has been spreading their joyful filth since 1987, when their Ritual of Darkness demo was unleashed upon the unsuspecting Death Metal community. Two fistfuls of various split albums were released until they put out their first full-length album, Hell’s Unholy Fire (2000). That’s when I first heard them, and I’ve been a fan ever […]

Left to Die – Initium Mortis

Left to Die – Initium Mortis

There have been cover bands since the dawn of music. Now, I realize that Left to Die is a bit more than just a cover band. The band features Death alum Rick Rozz and Terry Butler, as well as Matt Harvey, who also basically has another Death cover band in Gruesome. For years now, they’ve […]

Stormkeep – The Nocturnes of Iswylm

Stormkeep – The Nocturnes of Iswylm

Colorado’s Stormkeep had a nice little glow up on their debut album, Tales of Othertime, back in 2021. The symphonic black metal band with members of Wayfarer and Blood Incantation put the genre and world on notice that the US has indeed entered the chat. But then nothing for 5 years, other than an instrumental […]

Fleshcrawl – Epitome of Carnage

Fleshcrawl – Epitome of Carnage

After a 12-year layoff, Germany’s preeminent Swedish-style death metal veterans, Fleshcrawl (who I am now learning were called both Morgoth and Suffocation back when they started, and finally switched to Fleshcrawl for obvious reasons), reemerged into the fray with the solid Into the Catacombs of Flesh back in 2019. And now, after 7 years, some […]

Khemmis – Khemmis

Khemmis – Khemmis

Denver, Colorado’s Khemmis has returned with their fifth album, aptly titled Khemmis. I reviewed their last one, from 2021, Deceiver. Since then, Zach, Phil, and Ben have welcomed in new bassist David Small, who makes his presence known on this album. Rooted in doom and epic heavy metal, Khemmis has never shied away from elements […]

Fires in the Distance – Circadian Promise

Fires in the Distance – Circadian Promise

After greatly improving from their debut and delivering my 4th favorite album of 2023 in  Air Not Meant For Us, I was very excited and curious to see how Colorado melodic death/doom act would perform on all the all-important third album. Would it be their Master of Puppets or Reign in Blood? Or would it […]

Hecate Enthroned – The Corpse of a Titan, a Lament Long Buried

It’s been 6 years since the UK’s Hecate Enthroned returned to the purely symphonic black metal style that made them famous in the mid to late 90s. After starting as an unabashedly Cradle of Filth-mimicking band, with  The Slaughter of Innocence, a Requiem for the Mighty, Dark Requiems… and Unsilent Massacre, they delved into a […]

Ingested – Denigration

Ingested – Denigration

I’m starting to feel like metal websites need to have this image on their site: The UK’s Ingested was the latest in a concerning, long, and consistent run of deathcore vocalists being douche-y, with Josh Davies, who replaced original vocalist and co-founder Jason Evans in 2024, being promptly removed from the band after barely 2 […]

Dimmu Borgir – Grand Serpent Rising

Dimmu Borgir – Grand Serpent Rising

If you are at this site, reading this review I am going to assume that, 1) that you know who Dimmu Borgir is and their place in the pantheons of Black Metal, 2) that you probably have a strong opinion about them and their albums, 3) you know there has been an 8 year wait […]

Darkthrone – Pre-Historic Metal

Darkthrone – Pre-Historic Metal

This is my first time reviewing a Darkthrone album. I know, right?! I’m shaking my head too… lame as fuck joke but whatever. I’m pretty jazzed about it. I found out about Darkthrone through the classic Transilvanian Hunger; picked up from an Albuquerque bookstore, used. It wasn’t some hole-in-the-wall store either; no lit candles guided […]

Venom – Into Oblivion

Venom – Into Oblivion

So UK’s Venom have been around for a minute, eh?? If we are to look at the first three extreme bands using extreme lyrics, where devils, killing, and all things evil were first written about, the top three bands are: Black Sabbath, The Misfits, and Venom. I mean, with over 15 albums to their name, […]
