Terminal World Perspective

Here’s a decent debut of experimental, industrial, post black metal from a young Dutch band that should appeal to the likes of Dodheimsgard, VEGA and Aboryrm . While the mix of mechanical, Fear Factory styled atmospherics, dark ambient soundscapes, sampling and blistering yet adventurous black metal is a hard balance to find, CHD manage to do an admirable job and deliver over an hour of pretty good material on this concept based album.

With songs that range from 1 and a half minute introductions (“Eclipse”) to over eleven minutes (“Transpherium”, “Absolution” and “Sin Tide “Manufacturing”), you’d think Terminal World Perspective would be a draining listen, but luckily the band manages to keep things interesting for the 70-minute duration, though some may tire of the brittle robotics and futuristic, cybernetic ambience before albums end.

While the programming and post black atmospherics certainly take center stage, the band actually mange to inject some pretty vitriolic riffs into the mix such as “Creation Equivalence Principle”, “Spectrum of Divine Nature”, “Operation: Genesis Reprise” and “Global Storm Element” ensuring Terminal World Perspective is not just a sample and programming filled mess. My only gripe is that the longer tracks are largely the more ambient, instrumental numbers with “Transpherium” and “Absolution” making for nearly 22 minutes of programming-a tad too much. The slow plod of “Sin Tide “Manufacturing” is also another slight misstep in the album’s generally urgent pace and atmosphere.

Still, a solid debut that holds promise for this young Dutch band and their future.
