Review of Dripping Decay - Ripping Remains EP

There must be something in the water up Portland way. Maybe it’s toxic fluids hidden in the vast forests, Wendigo got involved… whatever it might be there’s been a slimey thing growing in the Portland area for a few years now since 2019 to be exact, it’s name is Dripping Decay and since their first EP Watching You Rot in2021 followed by the immense Festering Grotesqueries (reviewed in these hallowed pages by James Mays), they’ve been destroying ears with workmanlike precision.

Here we are in 2024, and after the aforementioned EP and masterful full-length I have another EP from these gross fuckers. Ripping Remains, fucking slays! Stellar production means that every instrument is beating your eardrums like heavy bags at the gym. The title track is like a battering ram, the riff grabs you immediately and then it’s time for “Emanating Necrosis” and the soul crushing heaviness of “Lead to Kill” with it’s ripping tempo changes and a sanguine riff that’s infectious.

“Wormridden Piety” and “Oppressive Repulsive” round out the muscles and sinew that is “Ripping Remains” a killer Halloween cover (not to be confused with Helloween). I only mention it because my stupid ass did and I figured it was a good way to share). Soooo anyways…

All kidding aside, I had a great time with Ripping Remains, Dripping Decay knows how to make a record that sticks with you and ensures repeated listening. If you enjoy Maul, Molder, or Fluids, this one is for you. This could be a contender for a list. Coming into the new year with this savage sonofabitch means that 2024 will be a year of brutality. Huge horns up!
