Review of Galväo - Uma Visão Derradeira EP

Label: Self-Released / Year: 2026 / Artist website

Here at TeethoftheDivine HQ, we get bombarded with hundreds of emails a week: promos, news, spam, etc. Most of the promos are largely auto-generated or canned and contain some sort of PR blurb via some sort of promotional/publicity platform (i.e., Haulix, which is great)

But occasionally, we get sent a nice personal email or note from a small band simply asking for a review — maybe they have read the site or maybe not. Such is the case with Portugal’s Galväo, a duo composed of Pedro Pires (all instruments) and Sérgio Ramo (Vocals), both of whom are or were in a number of Portuguese bands over the years.

They have been productive since 2021, with 4 EPs and a full-length album to their name, but this is my first exposure to them, and it’s a pretty solid first exposure.

Uma Visão Derradeira  (A Final Vision) is 3 songs in 20 minutes of modern atmospheric/melodic black metal with a somber undertone. The material here would be right at home on Tradegy Productions out of Chile (Winds of Tragedy, My Dearest Wound, etc.). It’s a bit dissonant, a bit melodic, and a bit depressive.

The three songs are all solid, with the final two standing out a little more from the more consistently dissonant opener “Ruína e Perdição”, which has a certain Deathspell Omega vibe. The second and third (“Rumo ao Abismo”) inject a little more variety and some solid tremolo-picked riffs into the dissonance, for example, about 5 minutes into “Oferendas Fatais” or at the start of “Rumo ao Abismo”, resulting in an enjoyable but layered 20 minutes of modern black metal.
