Review of Hirax - Noise Chaos War

Label: Thrash Corner Records / Year: 2010 / Artist website

For 20+ years now, Katon De Pena’s band of merry mayhem makers Hirax has graced (or scarred) the Metal world with their own brand of venomous, adrenaline-driven thrash metal. Punk attitude, metal spirit and raw aggression have been this band’s mantra since the release of 1985’s Raging Violence.

On offer here are three of Hirax‘s EP releases lovingly packaged into one release entitled Noise Chaos War (Barrage Of Noise from 2001, Chaos And Brutality from 2007 and Assassins of War from 2006 respectively). 18 songs, 50 minutes, new artwork… the whole shebang. What’s cool about it is, despite the differing production values, the song order sounds like a cohesive record which should serve as a testament to the quality of the thrash turned out by Hirax in the last 10 years. Highlights for me would be “Assassins of War”, “Walk With Death”, “Mouth Sewn Shut” and “Summon The Death Dealers”… all showcasing Hirax at their best.

If you never got around to getting these separately then I highly recommend grabbing this comp. If you’re a fan of Hirax, or of classic thrash metal in general, you can’t go wrong. Add this to the live DVD in 2008 and El Rostro De La Muerte in 2009, and Hirax has done plenty to feed their fans’ rabid hunger.
