Pusboil
Indictment EP

Who said that Switzerland was only known for Celtic Frost, Coroner, and Swiss Cheese?  Enter in Pusboil, who in 2022 crafted a real heavy demo and their debut album in 2023, Ancient Stories of Suffering and Disease, expanded on that full scope.

The band has brutal influences ranging from Sanguisugabogg, Undergang, and CephalotripsyIndictment is a 5-song ditty of an ep, attempting to top that hellaciously heavy debut album.

“Medieval God Judgement” blasts through the speakers after an intro with the putrid, filth-ridden breeee gutturals from Marvin Hiltmann.  He sounds like he’s farting outta his mouth.  The downtuned guitars from Remo Dora are really heavy and add Defeated Sanity to the list of influences, especially in this guitar tone.  It will create the brown note in you.  Massive blasting, and then those down-tuned slower moments.  Check at the 3.35 slow, creepy crawly section.  People will be blasting their anal cavities over this.  Horrifically heavy opener.

Maximilian Kratt allows his blasting skills to bleed for us more on “A Cruel End with No Remorse”.  Lots of crazy blasting, and his snare sound has a bit of tone similar to the ‘Bogg.  Not as poppy though.  The creepy crawly section around the two-minute mark will maul you to death with the plethora of pinch harmonics.  Squealing like pigs, and this crawling part is super heavy with a nice growl right before the blast.  Sandro Wyss provides the undercurrent of heaviness with his bass guitar and it is bottom heavy, just like all you suckers after Thanksgiving dinner!

“Torture to Force a Confession” (feat. Dennis Martinez from Lithopaedia), starts so damn heavy and the ‘Bogg influence is strong on this one Young Skywalker.  Sludgy, filthy and along with the clogged sewer pipe vocals, this is disgustingly heavy.  Those slow, creepy crawly moments are terrific with pinch harmonic,s sometimes setting the tone right before another down-tuned heavy moment.  More blasting with gurgles over those parts.  There’s some terrific breeeeees on this.

“Dreaded Apparent Death” at over 5 minutes ends the ep as the longest track.  Starting with a double pounding beat with some different guitar riffing patterns, then at the 49-second mark.  That creepy crawly slam, that Pusboil does so well, returns with the gurgling vocals.  There slams are kinda original, that is why I call them creepy crawly…that’s what they sound like.  There’s a stop and start quality to them.  The blasts allow for some higher register rasps then back into the gutturals.  The 3.40 section gets slow, sludgy, almost like quicksand,d slam stylized brutality.  This part is so dense you will feel like you’re sinking in quicksand.

Indictment is a wonderfully heavy EP and at times excruciatingly heavy.  There is so much filth on this, and to hear a band like this come out of Switzerland is pretty killer.  If Pusboil were not on your radar, they need to be now!
