Review of Repuked - Dawn of Reintoxication

Label: Soulseller Records / Year: 2020 / Artist website

What if you took the filthy icky ooze and sinewy, punky sneer of Autopsy, gave it a Sunlight Studio Swedish death metal buzz, an obsession with alcohol and puking, and a tongue in cheek sense of sick humor? Well, you’d get Stockholm’s Repuked and their fun little third album , Dawn of Reintoxiation.

With some possible parody ish song sings akin to Cannabis Corpse, (“Liver’s Bleed”, “Sewer Rain”, “Retribution From Behind”), it’s clear these guys are out to have fun, and they certainly do, but unlike Cannabis Corpse, they deliver memorable fun songs armed with a killer Sunlight buzz courtesy of Wing Studios and Demonical’s Sverker Widgren.

This isn’t complex, let’s not over think it. There are songs called “Shitfister”,” Fucking Your Fucking Corpse”, “Kick Fuck”, “Vodka Til the Grave” and “Repulsive Erected and Anally Infected”. The Autopsy stench is rancid and heavy in the air with most of the songs, from slimy crawls (“Retribution From Behind”, standout “Sewer Rain”) to bursts of punky, visceral savagery (“Shitfister”, “Kick Fuck”, “Vodka til the Grave”), and a little of both (“Global Burning”, “Morbid Obsessions”) and even some coll, retro 80s Horror soundscapes (“Dawn of Reintoxication” ).

The vocals of Rob The Slob and Nikke Piss (and just for kicks the other members are Richard Rimjob and Mad Masx) have the moist Chris Reifert gurgle mixed with standard Swedish death metal growl. Though not as full-on Autopsy worship as long defuct super group Murder Squad, Repuked are in the same puss-filled ball park, and these guys don’t just wear their Autopsy meets Stockholm Death metal influence on their sleeve, they forcefully vomit it into your open mouth. Fun stuff.
