Witch Vomit
Poisoned Blood EP

Witch Vomit is very much like the black mold that is abundant in the pacific northwest. If you live in the region, you know and experience this phenomena. The band is very much like it; black, murky and gives you that creepy feeling. Their sound just oozes blackness and filth. Slow, dark and pummeling is what you get spread across the 5 songs. Mind you, this the U.S. version (Portland), Witch Vomit, not the Swedish version of same name  Witchvomit, just adjusted spelling. This being their 2nd EP and they have a previous EP and one full length under their (bullet) belts.

Strong hints of Obituary, are what come to mind at first, then with repeated listens shades of death groove of Grave arise. This is not euro death worship either, not like Revel in Flesh or Entrails. There is a touch of the d-beat song structure, the buzzing guitar sound that is so much associated with that genre but this is bit older sounding, which is great. All songs are simplistic in a sense. I don’t mean this in a bad way, what I’m saying is that this is straight ahead, early days death metal. Lo-fi for lack of better words.

No crazy intros, no off kilter song structures, nothing trying to change the world. Just that lumbering zombie (crawling out of the grave on the cover) with a single, destructive purpose. To eat and devour your soul with their sound. Simplistic also because at a tad under 20 minutes in length, there is not a whole lot of time for the superfluous.

No need to go into details about individual songs, because at 4 songs and a intro, things kind of remain on the course previously mentioned, again not boring in any way and with the album length, this prevents it from being so. As of this writing I don’t think its released just yet ( except on vinyl through 20 Buck Spin Records) Give it a try, you can’t go wrong and won’t be disappointed.
