Hailing from Boston, Mass, I had never heard of Composted before. They’re an interesting band of fellows. After looking at the insert pictures, cover, layout and reading the lyrics I made this assessment. If you took Larry “The Cable Guy” and gave him some instruments with 3 other doppelgangers I believe Plump Up The Volume would vomit out of the beer guts. The lyrics on this album are hysterical and it’s good to see the band not take themselves so seriously-they’re having fun. Ultimately that is the point of making or listening to music. To have some fun.

But make no mistake about their music. It’s serious death/grind with an abundance of slam parts that are as heavy as the load on this album cover. “Toddler Cobbler” has some massive “Holy Shit” styled slam parts. Super heavy and nice pinch harmonics. The ultimate “Holy Shit” part is the 3.35 part of this tune with the isolated guitar riff. Once the hysterical voice comes in a few seconds later the slam that erupts is one of the heaviest and catchiest slams for 2015-easily. I can picture Larry “The Cable Guy’ strangling people with his microphone, during this slam part, and taking garbage pizzas and slamming them into some poor customer’s head. The alternate version of this tune, towards the end, is also awesome.

Plump Up The Volume by Composted

Production is good throughout the album and the drumming is really killer. Towards the end of the album, there are some ‘fun’ songs with alternate styled vocals that are hysterical. While the music is not the most original around, huge pluses for the fun the band has with lyrics and crafting some fun songs. However, the music is serious bad assery death/slam/grind. Vocals are gurgling toilet bowl stylized vocals. The guitars are extremely heavy, however never to the point where you cannot make out the notes or anything like that. Very catchy, heavy and most of all fun album. Check it out!
