Did I mention they’re not Swedish? As far as I know, there’s one Bristol that comes to mind, and it is not in Sweden. First track “The Seventh Bell” comes rising on ethereal keyboards before you get hit with a bone to the jaw. That buzz saw tone, those gut-munching riffs that put Plague Pit into the swampy morass of Left Hand Path and Clandestine era Entombed, especially “Crawl” and “Supposed to Rot” from those albums, respectively. Add to that the sound that Dismember had on Death Metal and Where Iron Crosses Grow… I swear it all makes sense, just keep reading.

This album has weight. Like it should have its own place on the periodic table; it is that heavy. Second track “Womb of Orchids” puts a bit more of those Dismember vibes in my brain, it’s thick as pond sludge, and they unleash their brand of Necrotic Death Metal like they’re running a clinic on brutality. Plague Pit throws salt on your wounds to prepare you for your sacrifice to “the Weeping God”. It’s a bit mid-paced, but even for these guys, that means heavy as fuck and tight as a motherfucker.

This album is one you would listen to on the way to your boss’s house to quit your job and maybe butcher their family in the process. You do you.

‘A Whispered Curse” is the haunting and powerful closer and title track. At 5:40 seconds, it dominates the album, as it should. They mix a smidgen of Incantation in with the Entombed and Dismember to create a behemoth of a song (that sounds nothing like the band Behemoth), in case you were wondering. But then, suddenly, the brutality stops and the ambiance, haunting and visceral, comes creeping in like a thief in the night, ready to slit your throat and steal your wallet.

Going off the information in the presser, Give In To Death was the first Demo let loose on the world, making A Whispered Curse their debut EP. Congratulations on a ferocious release lads! Constant reader, if you love the shit out of Entombed, Dismember, and Abstractor, then this is the EP for you!
