I have reviewed Connecticut’s Vomit Forth’s prior releases and since their debut album, Seething Malevolence, on Century Media Records, the band started to gain a lot more momentum, with tours and such. However, they have not crossed the threshold to reach the heights of labelmates Frozen Soul and Sanguisugabogg.

However, that could all change with Terrified of God. Outside of original members/vocalist Kane Gelaznik and Guitars, the rest of Vomit Forth are new members on this sophomore album. So with pretty much a new band, one would expect many changes. The band was previously known for their east coast brand of death metal brutality which also included a lot of slams and shit. For the most part, the only real tie-in to the last album is the length of this album, which at 27 minutes, is shorter than its predecessor.

Terrified of God, in some respects, sounds like a brand new band, since the band has adopted a heavy deathcore influence. Since I love deathcore, I am actually on board with this. The overly bludgeoning, at times, overly processed sounding production, is also evident here.

“Victim Impact Statement” opens things immediately and the Deathcore impact is all over this with Kane changing his vocals quite a bit than his previous guttural delivery. He has the dual, higher-pitched screamo vocals and then the mid-range guttural style. The music has the deathcore slams in abundance, however, there is a lot of blasting on this too. The band ushers in classic pinch harmonics to bring in that 90’s East Coast death metal vibe still.

It’s over before you can blink and “Sacred Apple” jumps out of the starting gates with the blasting and the slam at the 24-second part is pretty fucking ruthless and it gets slower even! The pinch harmonic slow down is wild, then right into the blasting. The song hits a massive groove at the end with harmonics and gets even slower again. It’s brutal.

“Negative Penance” is a tune the band made a video for. I like the isolated bass guitar moment in the beginning, right into chaotic vocals and blasting all over the place. The bass guitar part comes in again signifying a slam and at the 50-second mark – Boom-yet another tune that I am sure will be in their live set going forward. The slam after the blast at the 1.36 mark is devastating and there are a lot of killer pinch harmonics afterwards. Damn, this album kills thus far, right?

At 3.12 “Fear of Retaliation” is the longest song. Massive pinch harmonics and crushing rhythm moments are happening. The slowdown at the 1.30 mark will have all fist fighting going on in the pits. It’s a bludgeoning moment with the bass guitar also taking center stage during this song. Excellent vocals and guttural moments too are involved.

Shout out to the new Vomit Forth members Luke Zeitler – Drums, Bailey Olinger -Guitars, and Jett Stotts – Bass. The new blood has transformed the band into a deathcore powerhouse. The band could have been looking for a change-up since the North East area of the US is overcrowded with brutal slam death metal acts. Vomit Forth, ushering in Deathcore as their main sound helps them stand out a bit more. The production on this album is pretty darn loud and clear.

This is a really heavy album with tons of slamtastic moments.

Enough of my blathering – get Terrified of God now. Vomit Forth brings the pain, although in a newer direction, this slays.

I think someone at Century Media follows the underground and most relevant to my point the American death metal scene, very closely. They have poached from the awesome small California label, Maggot Stomp with Sanguisugabogg, Frozen Soul and now Connecticut’s Vomit Forth. The ‘Bogg and Frozen Soul are experiencing massive success with their albums, videos and touring. Vomit Forth is following close behind because now they have been having some very good tours, intent on supporting their debut album Seething Malevolence. They fit right in with this new and hungrier breed of death metal that audiences are sopping up with grease-filled bread worldwide. Guitarist Ricky Brayall and I were in touch after I reviewed their Northeastern Deprivation release, which combined all their ep’s and demo. I became an instant fan.

This debut is 11 songs in a brief 29 minutes. The opener is simply titled “Intro” and that’s precisely what it is. Ambient and atmospheric and pretty cool. A slow burn of things to come…, “Eucharist Intact” really starts leading the charge and at a brisk 2.13 Vomit Forth is not intent in giving us noodling and incessant tech babble, but rather some pretty ferocious death metal. Nice isolated guitar riffs, pounding drums then right into a blast. The vintage speed after that definitely has a Suffocation Effigy of the Forgotten sound, vibe wise. The growls and then groove slow down incorporates a little of my alma mater Internal Bleeding to the mix.

The following song “Pain Tolerance” starts with a stupid AF heavy groove opening. This must be in their live set. The gurgling vocals and punishing grooves will have you swinging your fists in the pit and then running to the local deli to pick up a meatball parm hero, run back in the pit and drop the elbow Don “ The Magnificent” Muroco style, just as Don did eating that sub in one of his 1980’s wrestling matches. This song is insane. Pinch harmonics are tearing heads off in the process too.

You can’t catch your breath until “Tortured Sacrament” swoops in….BUT I mislead you….. You will not catch your breath as more blasts and groovy slam parts punish your very soul. This song is extremely heavy and pinch harmonics are coming out of every corner and the well placed and meaty riffs are enough to have one slam around their block all damn day.

The title track starts great with guitars and a nice gang growling of the song title before going right into a punishing groove that has tremendous double bass drums to slap you upside da head. Some blasts and then back to the meaty groove with excellent gutturals. Nick Herrmann laying down some tasty drum patterns. Excellent and killer song. The varying vocal tones of guttural and more tough guy angry growly vocals add an extra layer of excitement to the sound Vomit Forth is going for.

The rest of the songs on Seething Malevolence follows similar patterns and are just as strong as what I’ve mentioned. If you’re into bands like Suffocation, Internal Bleeding and Dehumanized you will love Vomit Forth. The music is played with such killer conviction I can forgive some of their strong influences they clearly wear on their sleeves. Vomit Forth are killing it and damn; I love this album. I predict the next Maggot Stomp band Century Media will poach is Ohio’s Inoculation – another one of these newer bands currently laying waste to listeners. For now, buy all things Vomit Forth is selling.

Relatively new to the death metal scene, Connecticut’s Vomit Forth have been acquired by Maggot Stomp to take both the 2018 Vomit Forth demo and Inherit Laceration ep and throw them on a cd combining the 2 new songs in 2019, making up the Northeastern Deprivation for a total of 9 songs on this compilation of the band’s material, to date.

Maggot Stomp is quickly rising up the ranks in labels and look out for my forthcoming review for the debut from Fluids on this amazing label. The bands on this great label I am coining them and others-NWOBDM. New Wave of Brutal Death Metal. I foresee these younger bands begin to start usurping some thrones out there, regarding long standing bands who have been around for 25+ years. This is all evidenced by the fact when you look at views and streams some of these younger bands are laying waste to other longstanding acts and this is all part of the new generation and also the forward thinking mentality of these younger, hungrier bands. Vomit Forth are one of those bands. Starting the comp off with one of the new songs-“Immortal Disseverance” the song rips right into a brutal blast beat, after the isolated guitar riffing. Then the nice isolated drums and right into a mid-paced rumbling groove that will have bodies flying all over the place at the club. Since stop n start type of groove. A lot of angry attitude on this track. So killer.

NORTHEASTERN DEPRIVATION by VOMIT FORTH

Other new song “Pillar of Rot” will be bringing out the body bags with this opening groove/slam part that will cause sinkholes all over the place. Then those pinch harmonics will slice your body right down the middle and you will be lying a pile of blood and piss and become an Unclaimed Cadaver.

“Torn Open” from the Vomit Forth demo has an excellent guitar sound and from start to finish-pure brutality with gruff, barking death metal vocals. The snare drum sound has a little too much pop to the sound, for my liking, because I like a deeper and basier snare sound. This snare has a very Visceral Throne sound to it. The monster slam part and the ending blast part really make this a great brutal death metal song. “Lethal Impulse” from the demo must be in Vomit Forth’s live set. This opening mid-paced rumbling caused birds to suddenly stop flying and drop dead all over the Jersey Shore and the boardwalk was littered with all the stinking things, cause unsuspecting people to trip all day long over the carcasses. This song has monster blasting, killer vocals and nice drum rolls-really fast. I want to start punching things at the 2 minute mark where the slow down literally collapsed chest cavities everywhere.

“Inherent Laceration” starts with a monster vicious groove that had Scott Magrath dropping elbows all day long and then doing his best Ronnie Garvin “The Man with the Hands of Stone” impersonation on the poor check-out lady at Costco. This groove is ferocious and then “Entanglement” comes in and I’m done at this point, especially with the opening, the nice bass guitar lines and blast. Nice guitar riffing with catchy moments that are not thrown together, but actually thought out. The 1.11 moment has some black metal riffing going on and the vocals are super throaty and mauling.

The average song length comes out to roughly 2 minutes, maybe a little longer. Vomit Forth waste no time with their songs as they pack so much into these quick 2+ minute numbers and really I dig this band a lot. The production is true organic heaviness and this band has a bright future ahead of them. They have to record a full length in 2020 and provide the masses with new songs and I find a lot of originality to this band. While their sound is going to be geared more towards the NY/NJ brutal death metal style-Vomit Forth provides creative and innovative ideas.

Northeastern Deprivation is a monster of a compilation and their sound lays waste to many bands doing this style for 20 years. Crushing and destructive.
