There are 365 days in a year. I poop almost every single day. I’m pretty regular. Sure, it’s not every SINGLE day, but pretty close. It’s not unreasonable to think I pooped over 350 times this year. So, one could call 2021 a “shitty” year, eh? Anyway, here’s a list of my favorite albums from the year. Not one of them is a turd.

  1. Rivers of Nihil – The Work (Metal Blade Records)
  2. Worm Shepherd – In the Wake Ov Sol (Unique Leader Records)
  3. 1914 – Where Fear and Weapons Meet (Napalm Records)
  4. Silver Talon – Decadence and Decay (M-Theory Audio)
  5. Trivium – In the Court of the Dragon (Roadrunner Records)
  6. Times of Grace Songs of Loss and Separation (Wicked Good Records)
  7. Khemmis – Deceiver (Nuclear Blast Records)
  8. Archspire – Bleed the Future (Season of Mist)
  9. Light The Torch – You Will Be the Death of Me (Nuclear Blast Records)
  10. Witnesses – The Collapse (Self-Released)
  11. Carcass – Torn Arteries (Nuclear Blast Records)
  12. Signs of the Swarm – Absolvere (Unique Leader Records)
  13. Aborted – Maniacult (Century Media Records)
  14. Obscura – A Valediction (Nuclear Blast Records)
  15. Whitechapel – Kin (Metal Blade Records)
  16. The Lion’s Daughter – Skin Show (Season of Mist)
  17. Unto Others – Strength (Roadrunner Records)
  18. Every Time I Die – Radical (Epitaph)
  19. Aeon – God Ends Here (Metal Blade Records)
  20. Wolf King – The Path of Wrath (Prosthetic Records)
  21. Beyond Grace – Our Kingdom Undone (Prosthetic Records)
  22. Mental Cruelty – A Hill to Die Upon (Unique Leader Records)
  23. Inferi – Vile Genesis (The Artisan Era)
  24. Crawl Below – 9 Mile Square (Lawnmower Jetpack Records)
  25. Worm – Foreverglade (20 Buck Spin)
  26. Laparotomy – Ascendancy Through Hypnagogic Thought Process
  27. Panopticon – … And Again Into the Light (Bindrune Recordings)
  28. Tombstoner – Victims of Vile Torture (Redefining Darkness Records)
  29. Seven Spires – Gods of Debauchery (Frontiers Records)
  30. Cutterred Flesh – Sharing is Caring (Transcending Obscurity Records)

Record Label of the Year: Unique Leader. Not even close. They commanded an unexpected resurgence in deathcore, which is represented on my list… and there were several more close to making it.

Disappointments of the year; Besides myself, the new Gojira. No “every metal blog in existence,” Gojira did not “change the game.” The new album is boring. I’m sorry… and I adore that band. I am also disappointed in the lack of black metal that did anything for me. Blackened deathcore will have to do.

Non-metal album of the year by guys who usually play metal, but decided to play 80s pop instead – Night Flight Orchestra Aeromantic II (Nuclear Blast Records)
