Windseller EP

Here’s is more excellent Finnish black metal from Purity Through Fire to go along with Kryptamok’s superb Verisaarna . This time in the form of the fine debut EP from the 5 piece collective known as Nôidva (which has members of The Watcher, Herr De Qual, Sacrificium Carmen, and others).

Not as vitriolic or frosty as their aforementioned label mates, Nôidva  deliver a more experimental, slightly symphonic, melodic take on black metal, at times sounding like fellow Fins …And Oceans’ early (and more recent) work, especially the guitar tone  and keyboards of Caenum Shaman (check out standouts “Into Polar Nights”, “Vindictive Old Ones”).

The 6 song, (1 is a tribal interlude) 27 minute release is a nice long EP and all 5 songs deliver really enjoyable, melodic, riff based black metal with a few quirks here and there (shouted chants in “Followers of the North Star”, more jaunty riffs and bouncy keyboards in “Windseller” and “Eclipsed by Goahti’s Blood”).

These guys all play in a lot of other obscure bands, but it looks like Nôidva is where the collective talent certainly comes together for a promising project that’s the best of the bunch and I hope there is more pending from this outfit.
