Canada’s brutal knuckle-dragging slam death metal band NecroticGoreBeast returns with this 5-song ep, titled Brute. With three full lengths already under their belt, alongside their debut demo and split ep, the new ep should tide us all over until their next album. This year has been quite the year for ultra-brutal slam death metal with albums either already released or soon to be released by the likes of: Deliquesce, Bodybox, Body Prison, Internal Bleeding, PeelingFlesh, Dysentery, and Sanguisugabogg. NecroticGoreBeast have remained intact since their 2017 inception and are not intent on reinventing the slam genre at all. They are strictly intent on creating absolutely bludgeoning heavy AF slams.

The title track is a minute long intro, building up to “Assault of Severed Genitalia”. The opening riff on this song is one of the best openers of any death metal album this year. John Mayer unleashing a plethora of vomitrocious type of gutturals. He sounds like a bear. This beatdown slam is beyond lethal and has a better production, in the guitar department, than their last full-length Repugnant. The up and down heaving heaviness of this slam, equipped with the mid-paced double bass drums, is ferocious. Michael Chamberland certainly understands slam death metal riffage and it’s nice that Alexandre Brochu’s bass guitar is prevalent and JP Bouchard drums like a machine. Yes, things are triggered to make the drums sound perfect, but that is the way of productions for brutal death metal folks.. Around the 3.40 timestamp, a heaving, slower slam erupts, which gets even slower towards the end of the song. They have to open their live sets now with this song. That opening riff, I swear, there will be pits starting, even as soon as that isolated guitar riff opens.

The last thing anyone needs to have is a “Maggot Filled Colonoscopy”, however NGB wrote a song all about it. So instead of the Dr. finding 30-year-old crayons and coins in your colon, they find maggots. That’s pretty nasty. This song has that deliberate pacing of monstrous slams, and the 1.20 part even has a tinge of hardcore to it. Blast beats erupt and faster pacing with the bear-like gutturals entering the picture, and the sea of heaviness is something to hear. I urge you to crank this bad boy on a great system that has a sub to truly hear the various sounds. We have pinch harmonics, and this guitar tone is insane. There’s fuzz to the guitars, but it’s all discernible. This is not a jumbled mess of a mix. Everything is crisp, yet heavy.

Knuckle Deep Convulsions” erupts with blast beats and the cymbals are in yo face on this song! The slow down at the 32 second moment is punctuated by an isolated guitar riff to signify the Holy Shit slam is right around the corner from the grocery store. This slam erupts and then slows down further. I can imagine a crowd just walloping one another in the head during this moment. There are a variety of guttural tones being belched out. The faster pace ignites, and then a mid-paced moment with a triggered as fuck (TAF), double bass pattern. The hoping slam comes in with 90s-style NYDM pinch harmonics, which are sharp. The mid-paced slam continues onward and then downward as it closes out the song.

Brute is exactly what it is supposed to be from NecroticGoreBeast. They wear their influences on their sleeves and only want to create brutal, memorable slams. There are many catchy moments on this EP, and this is so fuc**ing heavy it will cause sinkholes all over the planet. Brutal and fun!
