The Angelic Process
Weighing Souls With Sand

“Dear Profound Lore Records,

Please submit $1256.56 to my bank account for the purchase of new speakers and stereo system as well as several visits to the ear doctor due to playing the new album from Georgia’s The Angelic Process. You see, after hardly being able to hear the opening strands of Weighing Souls With Sand, I cranked my stereo up and placed my head hear the speakers, thinking my stereo was on the blink. Then when the guitars for “The Promise of Snakes” eventually did kick in, I woke up 7 hours later, with no hearing and covered in my own fecal matter.

What on Gods earth did the band use to produce that guitar tone? It’s arguably at the same time the most unlistenable yet the most fittingly caustic and heavy tone I’ve heard. That, in conjunction with the bands conceptual take on Jesu meets Nadja meets Monarch! meets Neurosis styled dreamy, ambient drone/doom is one of the most atavistic yet grandiose and beautiful examples of the genre I have ever heard. It’s ironic that the album tells the tale of a man in a coma, considering I was in one for the better part of a day due to this album.

Could you please tell husband/wife combo K.Angylus and MDragynfly that their mix of angelic female vocals, haunting programming and planet colliding guitars caused the foundation of my house to move 6 inches and that I dare not listen to this album on my Bose headphones (when my hearing returned) for fear of being permanently deaf, despite the fact I want to listen to crumbling yet mesmerizing tracks like “Million Year Summer”, liquefying “The Resonance of Goodbye” and tragically hypnotic “Dying In A-Minor”.

I understand that with artists like Portal, Amber Asylum, Asunder, Profundi and Wold your label pushes the envelope of each genre you meddle in, but for Christ’s sake, please put some form of warning on your albums in the future.

I take cash or a personal check.

Thank You,

Erik Thomas,
